Description
The building, also known as the Dancing House or Ginger and Fred, has become a landmark of Prague architecture. The courage of the development team to include the design by Frank Gehry and Vlada Milunič in a traditional urban environment has garnered the attention of the general and professional public both at home and abroad, while earning several honours. The building, the construction of which began in 1994 and was completed in 1996, has useable space of 3 458 sq m for offices on a 6 floors with a restaurant with an area of 493 sq m on the uppermost floor.
Location and access
The Dancing House is located in a unique Prague 2 location, right on the Vltava River embankment. Its position guarantees effective traffic connections to the main roads and motorways in all directions (the Prague ring road and the D1, D5 and D8 motorways) along with access to the urban mass transit system such as the metro (Karlovo náměstí on the B line) and tram lines (Jiráskovo náměstí, Palackého náměstí and Karlovo náměstí).
